About
St. John’s Community was chosen as one of the 100 Best for the second year in a row because of the community’s commitment to its young people and desire to continually do better. For example, St. Johns Community recently formed the St. Johns Community-School Alliance, a liaison between the four-school vertical team (Brown ES, Pickle ES, Webb MS and Reagan HS) and community collaborators working to provide additional services at those schools.
This alliance includes key school contacts, after-school providers, health & social service providers, faith-based groups and community leaders. The SJCSA has added to its Community Improvement Plan and brought in an iPod ESL program and more than $750,000 in new money to attract stronger teachers and programs. An additional $220,000 in funding was added for after-school and other necessary services at the newly-opened Garcia Middle School and the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.
